Y’all, come on in!

That’s what we say in the South along with ‘have you eaten?” and “can I get you some tea?” Born in Alamance County, North Carolina, I grew up hearing and speaking many Southernisms. After graduating from NC State University, life took me to Northern California where these sayings and expressions generated both amusement and judgement. I grew tired of hearing my accent mocked and poorly imitated, but I survived. In short: Girls Reared In The South have GRIT.

Today, I’m proud of my heritage, the sound of my voice, and the communities in which I live, work, and serve. Whether I’m writing a newsletter for my neighbors or preparing a news release for statewide distribution, I know how to craft a story and package information to a variety of audiences. We can meet at The Raleigh Times for a bowl of grits or have a chin wag over Zoom!
